Smart Replicas, heritage to life

Seven tea cups, chosen by Maaike Roozenburg, from the collection Boijmans Van Beuningen formed the ‘basic material’ to examine how we could make useful replicas of museum pieces.

Seven different fairytales, music pieces and projections. In total, 7 ways to experience the history of the 7 cups. A big experience that'll show you the journey of the cups.

The original pieces were scanned in a CT scanner, and by reverse engineering the scans, 3D prints were made to produce porcelain cast moulds. A ‘smart tag’ containing information about the object was then linked to the new cups.
